Subfloor/Warm Floor

Does your facility have a functioning subfloor heating system? Have you checked to make sure it is working properly? Many subfloor heating systems take waste heat from the cold floor system and use it to heat fluid that runs below the insulation barrier under the cold floor concrete slab or sand floor. Industry standards recommend 6” of subsoil material that can be compacted and will not hold water. Through the subsoil ¾” or 1” tube spaced 18” oc covert the entire rink area and attach to a 3” header system. The subsoil system should be kept above freezing but not so warm that is competes with the cold floor slab. Temperatures in the low 40’s is considered optimal. If your building pad is suspectable to ground water, a robust drain tile system installed BELOW the subsoil soil heating system is the best way to mitigate water and reduce the risk of subsoil frost.
